Solar panel cost: what does it depend on?
Solar panel price usually brings the panels alone to mind, yet many items together set the price of a solar energy system. This page gives no ready-made prices; it explains what changes the cost and how to read bids.
Short answer
The cost of a solar energy system depends on its size (kWp), panel and inverter choice, roof or site conditions, mounting, cabling and grid connection work, design and application processes, and the warranty and maintenance scope. The way to learn the cost of your own project is to get several bids with the same scope and compare the items.
Items that drive the cost
- System size (kWp): the total price rises with installed capacity. Some items, such as design, applications and site preparation, do not scale with capacity, so systems of different sizes can have different unit costs.
- Panels: technology (for example monocrystalline), efficiency, manufacturer and warranty terms affect the price.
- Inverter: string inverter, microinverters or optimizers; the roof's shading and layout drive this choice.
- Roof and mounting: tile, trapezoidal metal sheet, membrane or flat roofs need different fixing systems; ground-mounted systems add foundations and a support structure.
- Cabling and electrical infrastructure: the distance between panels, inverter and switchboard, protection equipment and earthing.
- Grid connection and permits: design, connection application and approvals; a structural report where needed.
- Site conditions: transport, scaffolding or crane, roof access and safety measures.
- Storage (optional): adding a battery noticeably changes the total price.
- Warranty, monitoring and maintenance: longer periods and wider scope show in the bid price.
- Currency and taxes: in foreign-currency bids, the exchange rate assumption and VAT treatment change the total.
kWp and unit cost
kWp (kilowatt-peak) is the peak power of the panels under standard test conditions and describes the system size. Cost per kWp, used to compare bids, is the total price excluding VAT divided by installed capacity.
Reading unit cost correctly requires aligning scope: design and connection costs may be included in one bid and excluded from another. For a checklist, see the guide to getting solar panel quotes.
How to approach the cost of your own project
-
01 Estimate the size
Find the approximate kWp from your bill with the capacity calculator.
-
02 Write down the scope
Settle what you want, such as a battery, monitoring and maintenance, along with your roof details.
-
03 Collect bids
Create a project request; if you like, request bids on one template from the firms that unlock it.
-
04 Compare the items
Read the items and cost per kWp side by side instead of the total price.
Why are there no prices on this page?
Solar panel prices change with the equipment market, exchange rates and project-specific conditions. An average price that is not based on a verified, current source can mislead your budget. So Ufkon gives no price or price range on this page; the firms' bids show the price for your project.
Cost and payback
The payback of a renewable energy investment depends not only on the system price but also on your consumption profile, electricity tariff, yield and the rules for crediting energy fed into the grid. Ask firms for a generation and savings estimate that states its assumptions; this estimate is not a guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Why do solar panel prices differ between firms?
Bids often come with different equipment and scope: one includes design and connection costs and another does not, and panel and inverter choices differ. Aligning scope and looking at cost per kWp shows where the difference comes from.
Is the unit cost the same for homes and factories?
Often not: system size, roof type and electrical infrastructure differ, so the unit cost changes too. The bids show the figure for your project.
Does Ufkon set prices?
No. Ufkon does not install, does not set prices and takes no commission on your deal. The bidding firm sets the price.
